What exactly is a kingsize bed?
Every day we natter away on the phone or in our showroom about bed sizes. The majority of people aren’t totally sure what the difference is between a double bed, a queen size bed (which isn’t actually a UK size at all), a kingsize bed or a super king size bed.
Given that different countries have various names for their bed sizes, and even alternate between the metric and imperial measurement systems, it’s hardly surprising that people are confused. To make life simpler, we only offer standard UK sizes. Not only does this save a lot of headache, but it also makes it easier for you to mix and match mattresses and bedding over time.
So here's our definitive answer on what a kingsize bed measures: 150 cm x 200 cm. And if you're more used to talking imperial, this is otherwise known as a "five footer".
Snuggling up: should I go for a kingsize bed?
According to the large majority of our customers, kingsize beds are where it’s at. This could seem strange given that most people don’t have huge rooms to fit bigger pieces of furniture. But we reckon it’s because a kingsize bed lets you stretch out just so much more than a double bed that people aren’t prepared to hold back. Given that one spends a third of one’s life in bed (or more like half if you’re anything like us when we were students), it’s hardly surprising that kingsize beds are such a shoo-in for the most popular prize.
We would recommend though that, before you buy any bed, you measure your bedroom to ensure it won’t be more of a proverbial elephant in the room than the gorgeous addition it should be.
All this probably sounds really obvious, but we get asked every day so thought we’d mention it!
