Tokyo looks like a cool place but you can barely swing a cat in most urban Japanese homes; storage beds are pretty much a necessity to cram everything in. Rather than the usual 'lift-up' or 'slide out' storage beds, Japanese designer Yusuke Suzuki has taken the idea of reading before bedtime and created a bookworm's dream bed. This novel idea allows you to literally curl up in the pages of a good book, before folding it away for storage or using it as your very own playmat. Soft, fun shaped cushions can then be arranged across the page to create your very own story. Pretty nifty!

You may have noticed that this bed is primarily aimed at youngsters, although we think we know a few fully-grown kids who would quite happily sleep in it. One thing is for sure, there'd be no more tears at bedtime, your kids (or big kid) would be biting your arm off to get into this. Perhaps the only spanner in the works would be that the thought of sleeping in a storybook would be much too exciting! Yusuke's fab storytime storage bed is just a design prototype but we absolutely love it.

If you want to keep your current bed but fancy the idea of a bookish bedtime, check out this funky duvet cover. As part of Project SLEEPLESS, the sheets are the result of a collaboration between The Great Eastern Hotel and a group of students from the Royal College of Art, London. The duvet cover shown above was designed by Tiago da Fonsec and is compiled of numerous sheets which can be added to the story or removed to adjust the temperature. With this, you could slip between the pages each night for a scholarly snooze, although the story might get a bit repetitive after a while!

Whilst our storage beds don't have built in stories to sleep on, we make up for it with gorgeous materials and squishy mattresses, making it your very own fairytale.
