What can you buy for a fiver?

A melon? Wimbledon tickets? Our Sintra pillowcase?

Every year, my best friend and I send each other a five pound note taped to the inside of each other's birthday cards (just like our grannies used to do). We've been doing it for 20 years and the idea is to buy or do something that makes us happy.

This year I spotted a cantaloupe melon outrageously priced at five whole pounds but I had to see if it was worth it. It was the best damn melon I've ever tasted! Other cool things I've bagged for my fivers include:

  • 2 rides on the dodgems at the local funfair

  • Haddock & chips from the fish shop near our sofa makers in Long Eaton

  • A half day ticket to any of the courts at Wimbledon (except Centre)

And, as of last week, you can pick up one of our gorgeous Sintra pillowcases for just five pounds. You can't go wrong.

Love,
