How it all began
Once upon a time, a man wanted to buy a bed. The time was 2008
and the man was Charlie Marshall, an experienced entrepreneur,
chronic bad sleeper and all-round cheerful chap, who was soon
frustrated by the fiendish difficulty of the task before him.
Surely, Charlie thought, at the end of a wholly wasted Saturday, it
shouldn't be this hard.
He was right.
Fast-forward to today and Loaf is the British furniture brand
famous for snooze-inducing beds, sofas and other top-quality
designs handcrafted in the UK, founded on the crazy idea that
furniture shopping should be easy, and even fun. Less pacing around
with gritted teeth. More trying out potential pieces in person and
talking it through with experts until you're absolutely sure. With
a growing collection of industry awards and 12 Shacks around the
UK, it feels safe for us to say that Charlie was onto
something.
For the love of comfort
We're obsessed with comfort. Not in the sense that someone claims to be obsessed with a new TV show; no, this is a total, all-consuming preoccupation. Get chatting to us at a party and you'll be treated to an enthusiastic monologue about seat depth, cushion-fill combinations and the perfect angle of a sofa back. Many brands like to talk about this stuff, but none have taken it to quite our fanatical degree. There's a reason our award-winning sofas are widely considered the comfiest sofas in the UK. Until you've tried one, you won't understand the difference between "OK, that's pleasantly soft" and "Blimey, they really have created a science out of getting every exactly detail right." What we make
We design everything ourselves, taking inspiration from classic,
contemporary and modern styles to create versatile pieces that you
can bank on still looking and feeling their best, many years in the
future. From handcrafted sofas and beds to kitchen tables and
chairs, wardrobes, lighting and other accessories, our designs
follow the same comfort formula: rigorous research + expert makers
= furniture worth coming home to.
But this formula would be meaningless without the proper materials.
Take our wooden furniture, which is made from responsibly sourced
oak and lightly brushed to show off the rich natural grain. Or our
upholstered pieces. From plush velvet to natural, slubby linen, all
six of our Clever fabrics come in 34 gently softened shades,
because we believe no home is complete without its cheerful burst
of colour. Clever means spill-proof, in case you were wondering.
And spill-proof means ready for the crumbs, kids and chaos that
come with everyday life.
