Plumping a feather-topped seat
Using your hands, firmly trace the shape of the Union Jack on the surface of the cushion. The technique works best for non-reversible seats.
Plumping a feather-filler scatter cushion
Thump the cushion against a soft surface then pull at its opposite corners. This technique works for all scatter, side and back cushions.
Plumping a feather-wrapped seat
Pick up the seat cushion and give each of its sides a good thump against the floor. Since these cushions are reversible, we reccomend flipping them weekly.
Plumping a single cushion seat
Remove the back cushions, then place the seat cushion on the floor (having made sure that the floor is clean) and walk briskly across its surface.
What's the best plumping technique for my sofa?
That depends on which cushions your sofa has.
Bounce-back comfort
These cushions spring back into shape after every sit. Little to no plumping required.
Soft with support
Soft feathers on top, supportive foam underneath. A monthly plump should do the trick.
Cloud-like sit
The luxurious softeness of feather-wrapped cushions is worth a weekly, or even, daily, plump.
Why some sofas need plumping
The glorious sink-in feeling of feather-filled cushions comes from the way the feathers shift to accomadate you. This freedom of movement means over time they inevitably bunch together. Plumping spreads the feathers out to restore the cushions original shape and sink-in feeling.
FAQs
Why do my cushions look uneven or flattened?
This is totally normal for feather-filled cushions. The feathers will naturally settle with use and just need a good shake and plump to redistribute the filling.
Can I rotate my cushions?
For our feather-wrapped and bounce-back seat cushions - absolutely. Rotating or flipping your cushions helps them wear more evenly and keeps them looking their best for longer.
Should I open the zip when plumping?
Yes. If it helps, you can open the zip slightly to let some air back into the cushion. Our cushion inners are surrounded by a calico cotton casing so no feathers will escape.
Are loose feathers normal?
Yes. The odd feather making its way through the seam is completely normal and nothing to worry about.
