Natural variation
Marble is a natural material, so colour, veining and texture will vary from piece to piece. These variations are part of its charm and not considered faults.
Porosity & staining
Marble is naturally porous and can mark or stain if spills are not cleaned promptly. Liquids such as wine, coffee, citrus and oils may leave permanent marks if left to absorb.
Etching & acids
Acidic products (lemon, vinegar, wine, tomato, cleaners with acid) can react with marble and create dull patches known as "etching". This is a natural characteristic of marble and not covered under warranty.
How to clean
Use a slightly damp cloth to wipe down and then dry with a non-abrasive cloth. Avoid harsh cleaners as they can damage the surface.
How to protect the surface
Always use coasters or placemats for your drinks as stains and watermarks from food or drink can be permanent. Don't forget that glass and marble surfaces can shatter, so protect them from any heavy impact.
Is my marble sealed?
Our marble tops are polished and lacquered to help slow down absorption and make everyday care a little easier. However, even with this protective finish, marble is a naturally porous stone, so it isn't completely stain-proof. Spills, especially wine, coffee, oils and anything acidic, should still be wiped up straight away to avoid marks or etching.
